My website is broken and I can't fix it. Who can?
Someone who repairs and rebuilds websites can fix it, and you don't need the person who first built it. Before you pay anyone, take ten minutes to work out which of four common problems you have.

My website is down. How do I check what's wrong?
Open your site on your phone using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. If it loads there, the trouble is your own internet; if it still won't load, the website itself is down.
- Domain expired: the registrar's page or a parking page shows instead of your site.
- Hosting unpaid: you see an error page from the hosting company, or nothing at all.
- Security certificate expired: the browser warns that the site is not secure.
- An update broke it: the site shows an error message or a blank white page.
My site stopped working overnight. What usually causes that?
The most common cause is a payment that quietly failed, like an expired card on the hosting or domain account. The next most common cause is an automatic update that changed something the site relied on.
Who can fix my website?
Any good developer can, as long as you can give them the domain login, the hosting login and permission to make changes. If you have none of those, getting them back is the first job, before anyone touches the code.
How much does a website repair service cost?
Developers usually charge $50 to $150 an hour, and a small repair can take one to three hours. When the same site keeps breaking, a rebuild often costs less than a year of repeat repairs.

Should I fix my broken website or rebuild it?
Fix it if it broke once for a clear reason, such as an expired card. Rebuild it if it breaks again and again, if nobody can edit it, or if nobody knows how it was put together.
My website is broken. Can I fix it myself?
You can often fix a payment or renewal problem yourself in a few minutes. Code, database and server errors are safer with someone who makes a backup first, because one wrong change can wipe the site.
